The City of Albany's Department of Youth and Family Services has successfully instituted a Gang Prevention Program (GPP)to work with the city's "at risk youth" ages 9 to 18, who may be at risk of joining a gang.
The Capital Region Gang Prevention Center builds on the existing Albany Gang Prevention Program model and assists Albany County, Rennselaer County and Schenectady County in developing a similar model in their communities. The center, located at 175 Central Ave,. Keeping children from joining gangs takes time.
It requires both individual and group efforts if we are going to make our communities strong and healthy in resisting gangs. Preventing youth gang involvement is not just a job for law enforcement, but for parents and community residents. The Capital Region Gang Prevention Center offers a way for tri-county residents to get involved and help in the fight to save our children. With awareness, cooperation and communication, we can all tackle this issue.
The success of this initiative relies on the efforts of our communities!
